Hey folks. Just had the clutch rebuilt for my 1984 F150 after 278,000 was put on the truck. (No brag, just fact)The shop told me there was some flex in the firewall when the clutch is pushed in and the brakes too. Several years ago I had to fashion a brace for the clutch master cylinder after it started to push away from the firewall. I seem to remember someone mentioning in this forum about having a similar problem and was wondering if there is an after market product that can be purchased to help cure this problem. Maybe a ready made bracket of some type that can be placed on the passenger side of the firewall to stiffen it up some. Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks
eddie,
I just posted in 87-96 section about this. the 84 is slightly different, but the parts are similar(not exact).
ford has the kit for both minimal and major cracks. the cost is about 140.00 difference! so I hope you caught it early.
the " easy" kit is about 10.00 bucks and took me 45 mins to install.
BIG DIFFERENCE IN CLUTCH PEDAL EFFORT AND TRAVEL.
Thanks folks. I wasn't aware that there was a real fix out for this problem. My master cylinder has minimal cracks at the bolt holes and I should be able to use the cheaper of the two kits. The brace that I rigged up several years ago is still holding but I need something more permanent. Thanks again for the replies.
