On my 1988 F150 the firewall flexes when I push in the clutch pedal, I noticed the sheet metal on the firewall seems to be separating at a seam. Is there a fix for this and how hard is it. Also at the same time the clutch safety switch is not working, could this firewall flex be causing the problem with the switch?
I had the same problem on my 88. My firewall was seperating when the pedal was pressed. I had a buddy put a small weld on it, it helped alot, it should help the clutch switch problem as well, but I had mine bypassed long before I fixed the firewall, my clutch was hard enough to push, and I literally had to put it to the floor to get it started. I'm not sure how to bypass the switch, but I was lucky enough to find a mechanic that did it for $15 bucks, I hate working with wiring. Oh and if you do get the firewall welded, make sure to unhook your battery. I heard it can cause problems and I didn't and it corroded some of my wires. Not exactly sure if the welding caused it, but when I parked it, no problem, after the welding, I tried to start it, and had to rewire some components, so thats just a little "Beware" or just in case. Hope this helps.
Thanks, both of you, called the dealer and you can get the small kit for about $6.00 bucks now. it sounds like it reinforces the firewall behind the clutch cylinder. My firewall has not shown any cracking or damage around the master cylinders, but the seam around the top of this section is separating away from the rest of the firewall, does not sound like the kit will fix that I may have to make a reinforcing strap myself or have the neighbor weld it.
Again thanks to both of you..

Dont know about the # but I have a 87 F250 and had the same problem and drilled a 3/8 inch hole a couple inches to the right and put a body bolt with nut.It brought the clutch pedal way up,a little bit past the brake pedal. It also helped the safety switch which I did bypass. There`s a switch located on the clutch pedal assy. under the dash.I took the plugin off and put a fuse in the plugin and elect. taped it.Later I`ll cut it and wire nut it.Tony
