Has anyone replaced their half shafts on their 97 f?
If so, were their any difficult areas as far as getting them loose?
Also, if they are being replaced should we replace other (most likely) worn components?
thanks,
It's a pretty straightforward job although some of your parts haven't been seperated for 10 years. It would be good time to check your shocks and your steering components while you're working on it.
Make sure you get Ford shafts not the parts store rebuilts. The standard rebuilds have only three bearings in them and the Fords have five. After I changed mine, I noticed much more binding in the front end.
Did you have any touble separating the front wheel knuckle from the front suspension upper arm?
Using a pitman arm puller?
You know, did you have to heat anything or use wd40?
WD40 is a miricale worker, and i bet you will have to use it, i know i did when i changed my shocks last year for the first time since the truck was built
All I used was a "pickle fork" and BFH. I don't remember it being too difficult to get apart. You might not want to use a pickle fork unless you're doing ball joints at the same time.
