I have a 1997 ford 150xlt extended cab 4x4. Im haveing computer issues. My question is does anyone make an aftermarket computer for ford? ifso can anyone tell me where to find. Thanks to everyone
You are going to need to reprogram the computer when you put it in. I know the PCM and some Instrument Cluster modules need programming. If I remember correctly, the GEM won't need programming it comes pre set up. But then again when I do module installs I just connect the IDS and if it has an opiton under "Module Installation" for the module I'm installing I just run the install process from there. I would check with a manual before you go replacing any modules, or you may have more problems then when you started....
my speedometer is all jazzed up. It reads perfect up to 30 mph then as the speed goes up its way off. so bad it needs to read 90 on the speedometer to be 70 mph actual..Plus all my lights are on(check engine, brake, air bag .ford tells me the computer is bad in spots needs to be replaced. I didnt want to spend 1000.00 on a computer so thats why i was wondering if anyone offered them..thanks for your help
Ok well may i ask if this is a dash micro processor issue, is that replaceable? and ifso where is the best place to get them? also ford was who told me it was a computer issue. but thank you its great to finally have a place to discuss this and be able to fix my issues
Ford also told me that my climate control module was dead/unresponsive and thats why my hot/cold didnt work in my taurus.... it ended up being a blower door that didnt work...
they wanted 700 bucks to fix that module and i would know that they wouldnt have refunded me for there mess up..
Basicaly what im saying is dont belive everything that ford tells you.
Rarely is an owner able to resolve the issues unless very lucky.
The dash processor recieves signals from the PCM that are translated to the individual outputs.
If your motor runs ok, IMO the dash has the problem.
Good luck, it's not cheap either way.
