Anti theft- Remote Starter issues...
I have a 98 Eddie Bauer Expedition 5.4L. I recently had a remote starter installed, and everything has been working, until it got cold.
Now when I go to sart it remotely, it fires up and then shuts off after about 2 seconds, then fires again and shuts off, then it tries to start again and just cranks and cranks, and no start.
I ran out to shut it down before it killed my battery, and noticed the anti theft light blinking. I waited about 15 minutes and it started manually, but the same thing happens when I tried to remote start it again right after. It has the PATS bypass that requires a key to be placed inside. Does getting the PATS bypass that doesn't need the key work better?
Could the cold affect my remote starter. Cuz that would suck seeing as the reason I got it was for those cold mornings.
I am going to take it to the guy who installed it this week sometime, but it is Sunday today, the shop is closed and I thought some of you may have the answer.
thanks.
I'm hoping maybe a loose wire or bad connection or something. It is just wierd that it won't work when it is cold, but the second it warms up a few degrees or runs for a few minutes I retry the remote starter and it works again.
It's odd.
Most 98's have a PATS 2, and mine was produced early in the run with a PATS 1. It's good for me because I only need one key to program another, but bad for installers who don't realize I have a PATS 1.
Long story- short- they are installing the keyless bypass tomorrow.
The problem is, the installer can't seem to find one that will work on my truck. He has the key hooked up under the dash to bypass PATS which should work, but it does not work on cold mornings, and I would like it installed properly with a keyless bypass.
Any help would be appreciated, cuz I feel like an idiot running out to My Expedition on cold mornings to start it after I just spent $400 on a remote starter.
