General automotive---hmmmmmm- seems like the closest catagory, my other choice would be bodywork
Anybody got any good ideas (links to another site) about slicing off the front of a front drive ford car, and welding a bike frame on the front!!!!!
A vw trike is out of the question-yuckkkkkkk
I mean is there enough substantial unibody there to weld to, or do you think this is an unbolt and fabricate everything job.
I copied the link from the source, and used the "INSERT IMAGE" thing in the go advanced reply option. One tip: When you use that, delete the HTTP: that is in the blank for the image address when you insert yours. You'll see what I mean.
Otherwise there will be two of them in the image address.
After a certain point the "trike" becomes a 3 wheel car. A bike is a bike and a car is a car even if it only has 3 wheels. Some bikes have fairing, but they do not have "bodies". Part of the bike thing is being open and in the wind. I ride until my hands and my helmet get froozen. Then I put it away until the spring. Some ride all year. If it rains you get wet. To me if you put a roof on it you go from bike to car. If you want a project bike, build one. You can use an old flat head Ford engine to be different.
If you want easier you can take the VW you don't like and trash the engine. There are companies that make adapters to hook a harley engine on the back of the trans axle. But they end up long and wide.
put the harley engine on the vw axle? no not me, and I think I'll skip the flathead also
4 or v6 ok, and theres enough of them available, just put the passenger seat fiberglass body over the engine, driver in front, springer in front, and hopefully the front end will stay on the ground at highway speed
just never liked vw,
why put all that money in a bug engine, still sounds like a baby farting
i certainly think a stock front wheel drive would power a trike really well based on sweeties buick v6
radiator, yes, need to put that somewhere, and sheild the passenger area from the radiant heat, at least it can be plumbed anywhere, no worries about ducting adequite air to fins
bending the 1/8" wall tubing is a little intimidateing though
A guy I know over at another website ( www.3wheelerworld.com ) made a 3-wheeled car (two of them actually). He chopped off everything behind the front seats and fabbed up a 3-wheelers front forks and tire.
You should drive a trike before you try it- esp. a single front wheel. I test drove a VW one once that I wanted to buy- dangerous! The front is too light for the weight and power in the rear, so you have to back off the throttle completely to go around a curve. Roll the throttle on, and you straighten out- whether you want to or not. I did a lot of research on this, and the best configuration is 2 front wheels w/ front wheel drive, and a single rear wheel. They handle much better.
