Super Duty Electrical Problems

Hello,
I was wondering if someone might be able to help me in regards to an electrical problem I am having with my2002 Super Duty F250.
I had to change out the battery and when I was finished I noticed that my door locks do not work, The open door light on the dash stays lit even though the doors are closed, The interior light does not come on when the door is open , the radio does not power down even after the ignition is turned off and the door is open and the security system does not work. I checked all the fuses and I found nothing wrong with them. Can someone help me? I am stumped.

Thank you, NJ Poolman

It sounds like you have a bad or broken ground wire. Check around the battery for a possible broken wire or even one that you might have forgotten to hook up when replacing the battery. If you can not find any, take some time and clean all the ground wires that you can find. Over time grounds corrode and get weak, and by replacing the battery you are asking them to work as if they were new. This can lead to some funny stuff happening.

I think I'd uhook those batteries again and let it sit for a couple of hours. Then make sure the key is out of the switch and hook them back up and maybe everything will reset.

Don't forget to check the other end(s) of the ground cable. You will sometimes get corrosion on the block.

Except for the door locks, it sounds like you may have a bad door (pin) switch.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
I also found these issues last night.

I had to change out the battery and when I was finished I noticed that my door locks do not work, The open door light on the dash stays lit even though the doors are closed, The interior light does not come on when the door is open , the radio does not power down even after the ignition is turned off and the door is opened and the security system does not work. Even after I remove the key and open the door all the power windows still work. Also the lock for the steering wheel does not engage I checked all the fuses and I found nothing wrong with them, all ground wires are clean and attached. Can someone help me? I am stumped.

Thank you, NJ Poolman

Have you removed the battery terminals again. Wait a awhile then reattach the terminals. You have a gem module that has freaked out. I would touch the terminals together for a minute to drain off any excess stray voltage.. You may have fried something but it would be rare..

Certainly lookfor bad grounds near the battery cables ..sure you didn't hook up the battery wrong for a second? The gem module is causing the issue's because it controls all the things you are having trouble with..Many times as said earlier the problem has been a ground or water leaking down getting on the gem module. what exactly did you do to cause these problems?

Please don't take this wrong I mean no disrespect, but as for hooking up the battery wrong, I am not a novice mechanic and have many years behind me in this field.

Well you are assured that that is what caused your problem to show up. You may have had a weak ground and now it showed its face or the initial spark surge when you connected the battery caused a weak electronic circut to go bad. Did you check fuses under the hood? Did you check the ground wires to the right of the steering column if you take the panel off and look up. the gem module is behind the fuse box. Wiggle all wires to see if you can get something to go back to normal. Do you have any accessories like remote start, alarm etc?
