ok, i am getting new mufflers, and i want flowmasters, my friend has them and i love the sound.....only problem.....dont know what time to get, its a '76 f100, 390, headers and glass packs right now, but im not big on the sound of them, plus i live in VA and they're very illegal lol.
I have the 40 series 2.5'' offset in center out flowmasters with duel exhast. I am looking at stainless steel magnaflows with the straight through design. I've read their less restrictive (more hp) than the flows.
Not wanting to start a war on mufflers but I have run Flowmasters on mine and yes I did like the sound, the neighbours not so much. I switched over to a set of stainless Magnaflows and the tone changed but the truck woke up and the difference was night and day. If it's sound you want then let your ear decide, if performance is your goal than I would say the Magnflows.
My shameless plug:

I used the 2 chambered 40 series Flowmasters on my 77 that are made for a 86-93 5.0 Mustang. I also have them on my 88 5.0 Mustang and my 63 F100 351W.
I am considering a Magnaflow for my 2001 when the Flowmaster is done.
Nice video, would have been better without the music though
So far from what I read is true. Magnaflow outflows Flowmaster with their straight through design. I have a 76 F-100 with a 390 engine with the works and had two 40'' glass-packs on it. I decided on the Magnaflow after I looked at both designs because you can see right through the Magnaflow. The Flowmasters have baffles in them which causes a restriction in the exhaust building around the baffles. If you want loud resonating noise then go with Flowmaster. Hope this helps.
thanks for the input guys, performance isnt really my main goal right now, im not using it for anything other than going to school and back pretty much. but where can i get the ones that ill need?
search for the flowmasters youll need. if you can use this forum, i think oyu can figure summit racings website out pretty easily. Shipping is usually really quick with them also.
Ive got:
1 Flowmaster 40 2.5" single in single out on my 79 F150 4x4 300-6 4bbl Clifford 390cfm holley and 262H cam. The sound is exactly what I wanted at idle but sounds a little ricey when on the gas.
2 Flowmaster Super 40s 3" single in single out true dual with 2.5" H pipe on my 79 F250 4x4 460 making 390hp@4500rom at the rear tires and it sounds very deep at idle and a raped ape at WOT.
All in all I love the flowmasters on my 250 and dont care for them on my 150 but its not enough for me to rip them out and install something else. With the 390 Id say it would sound great with the super 40s or 44s. Mufflers are a matter of prefference and NO 2 trucks will ever sound the same even with all factors being the same....EXPERIENCE!
77 460 i love your video, and your truck is beautiful. you guys who have done both flowmaster and magnaflows, what is the sound difference? the video sounds good to me. idon't want my truck loud, i want to quiet it down some. i have glasspacks now.
i have flowmasters on my other trucks both v6's an 83 s10 and an 83 ranger. i like the flowmaste sound, but if magnaflow will out flow them i will try them.
