Smile Spray on or roll on?

Whats the major difference on getting a spray on bedliner from the do it yourself roll on one?

I would say quality of product and some places i believe give somewhat of a warranty. I personally think it would look better professionally done, but i do understand the cost issue. Let's see what others have to say.

^ that there is funny

spray on is prettier and most likely will last longer and wear better

the roll on is cheaper...but most likely will last just as long

really comes down to money you want to spend and if ya want to do it yourself

If I didn't have a spray in I would definately roll my own.

You can make it just as nice and if you scuff it you can fix it (mine is scuffed)

Once you are good at rolling your own you can do it on other surfaces as well -like rocker panels

I am very interested in your results so keep us posted!

Depending on the spray on, it might be a hot or cold application. I believe Line X is cold and Rhino hot applied. Either way, I prefer letting the professionals do my 32k dollar truck which comes with a lifetime warranty. I would think it's thicker as well, esp the Rhino like I have. My 2cents

from observation...The roll on do not adhere or last as well as the spray on bedliners.

My personal opinion is if you spent the big $$ on the truck, invest in a quality bedliner. If the budget is an issue and anticipate upgrading to a spray-on later, save the hassle and trouble down the road and don't do the roll-on. Save the money and do it right. My F-i-L had a roll-on in his truck that was flaking and peeling. We planned to get him a Line-X as a gift but the shop wouldn't touch the truck until after all the roll-on was removed. It was a long weekend trying to get all that stuff off. I don't want to go through that for my truck if I have the choice.

That said, we have used roll-on kits in the bottom of the duck boat for traction and sound deadening. Extra was also put on the rungs and platform of a couple treestands. But for the truck, we're gonna get the good stuff.

Buy a can for $30 and roll it on something (other than your truck) to see how it comes out...

Incorrect info above, LINE-X uses heat/high pressure.

Looks is really secondary here. The do-it-yourself products are not even close in durability to the professional products. For example, let's look at the Taber Abrasion test, LINE-X vs. Herculiner. With 1,000 revolutions, Herculiner lost 30.5 grams, LINE-X lost only .1525 grams.

You can go to Wallymart and buy a few cans of Krylon paint and paint your entire truck or you can go get a professional paint job. You can go to Wallymart and by a DIY bedliner or you can go get a professional bedliner installed. Pick whatever fits your needs and budget.

However, you'll pay about $100 for a one-gallon kit of the DIY stuff. You will also need acetone, rubber gloves, paper, masking tape, sanding paper, and about two days. LINE-X sprays about 4.5 gallons in a truck and can have it done in about 3 hours. And, with LINE-X, you get a nationwide lifetime warranty.

I have a line-x and I'm not impressed

If I'm going to be dissapointed I would rather spend $100 rather than $700 (dealer price)

I wish I could speak differently about it but I have to be careful putting my kids bikes in the back because the pedal will wear through the liner from 1/2 hour of driving. And its not just a bad batch or bad application as it was already re-done

What kind of truck do you have and do you have regular black LINE-X? Regular black LINE-X for a short bed truck is going to be in the area of about $450. I'll be honest, I don't believe you have LINE-X in your truck at all.

If you're not impressed with LINE-X, you certainly won't be impressed with the DIY stuff.

Herculiner, before and after:

LINE-X color match (charcoal beige) with Xtra (resists fading and loss of gloss, contains Dupont Kevlar for extreme durability):

LINE-X Xtra:

Another Xtra color match:

Regular black LINE-X:

Here's a Hummer H1 that had a DIY product in it. We striped it out and installed black LINE-X Xtra:

Not sure why you wouldn't believe me...

Over priced dealer add-on. They are certified and the line-x rep was notified about my dissatisfaction. Lawsuite pending with this dealer for a number of things...

My line-x; this is the first coat. You can see on the tailgate a scuff created from my kids bike (I have a bed extender)

Do you have a picture of the LINE-X bedtag? The reason why I'm asking is because I have run into TWO situations recently with dealers telling customers they are offering LINE-X and it's not. (Both happened in Houston, TX)
