thanks for the welcome and the info guys... i was just at a garage today and they said $250 to put it on there im positive i can do it myself... its just the only torch i had is a propane one and i dont wanna get severely stuck ya kno

one thing i was curious about was the vacume lines and the metal tube that come out of my manifold... i was wondering what i should do... just block them off? or is there a special way? i think the metal tube is the egr and its pretty rusted into there... so i guess id take off the square thing it goes into on my carb and make a blcokoff plate

and the other thing i was worried about was the gaskets and my starter the starter is easy enough with a heat sheild wrap... but the gasket i guess ill just double up and glue together considering i have a tube of the copper rtv in my garage

then i was thinking the smaller the exhaust pipe i run the better my fuel economy is going to be.... haha whats your thoughts on this guys? i was kinda thinking to run a dual 2.5 inch pipe at least a foot back from the collectors then y them both into a single 2.5....but for some reason that sounds like it shouldnt work well to me... and id like to stay away from 3 inch pipe... not sure why but it just seems a lil big

thanks for the help and i guess ill order my stuff either tomorrow or monday from summit

Has anyone run headers with a true dual setup? I'm thinking 2" pipes with an H-pipe and tailpipes coming out the back might sound nice.

My plan is to do true dual 2 1/4's. I've heard good things about it.

That's for sure cats aren't cheap, the good flowing ones anyway!

Part number

What is the part number for those Hedman Headers { 4.9l l6 } I would like to check them out and wondering if they would fit in an Econoline?

all the extension really needs to be is a piece of pipe off of the collector with a mtaching diameter. heck, a glasspack attached straight to the collector will act like a collector extension if the diameters match. the collector "ends" when the exhaust sees it's first major change in pressure (like stepping down from 2.5 to 2.25 or even stepping UP from 2.5 to 3)

is he right?? i really want the right sized exhuast on my truck.... but everyone has a different thing to say

I got a set of Hedman's for my 84 4x 4-speed, then used them on my 75 2wd auto. They fit both vehicles fine. One thing you'll want is a heat shield for the starter ( I used a coffee can), or you'll get good at replacing them.
