Okay I need a TAP to clean out the sparkplug threads of my 89 460,
I seems the other day that i may have boggard up a couple threads In
the process of installing plugs, So what I have as of now is the the
threads are 14mm (whatever that meens) but I also need the pitch of
the threads, and the closest I've have gotten to is 1.25 or 1.50 pitch
plus or minus not sure. and where I can find such a tool to clean them
out. Im using Autolite AP25 plugs, if that helps anyone.
Okay have done some digging around and found out that the 14mm is the diameter
of the plug. and there are three differant picthes 1.0 1.25 1.50, now the new part
of my question is can anyone tell me or knows which pitch i'm to use??
If there is a machine shop or machinery supply around you, they can quickly determine the thread size from one of the spark plugs. Or get your hands on a "thread pitch gauge" and check for yourself.
find a snap-on tool guy and ask him. I believe they have a tool to chase spark plug threads. You don't want to use a regular tap or you will really bugger them up. Us the thread chaser. Mac tools probably has the correct tool also.
most quality auto parts stores will have a thread chaser for you...I got mine at advance auto ....needed it for the cat convrter bung - but other end fits the plugs ....its about $8

Yep, There's nothing scientific about a sparkplug thread chaser. Most of them I've seen will fit in a plug socket for ease of use....I have one that's double ended and it's been so long since I used it I don't know why....Standard and metric I suppose.
Okay so here's the story, I actually called up the autolite specialist to get the
anwser and they told me that the pitch was a 1.0, went to a specialty tool store
and they had a guage to check for thread pitch and found that the pitch is 1.25
(1.0 is to fine) bought the reamer or tap, went home cleaned the threads and wala
perfact. So if anyone ever needs the size most common is 14mm x 1.25.
Thanks for all the help.
