I have a friend that is looking for aftermarket or ford rims for his 1982 F100 short bed truck. I understand that 80 thru 83 F100 had smaller bolt pattern and F150 rims won't fit. Does anyone know what the bolt pattern size is and what car type rims would fit this? Everyone he has talked to about aftermarket rims basicly doesn't understand the difference. If a car rim has the same bolt pattern will the center fit over the the truck bearing housing?
The pattern is 5 on 4.5 inches. Most five lug Ford and Mopar cars will have that pattern. Some Jeeps also. Most wheels will fit over the 2wd bearing hubs.
Not all of the F100's have the smaller pattern... I own/have owned 3 of them with the standard 5x5.5, if the truck has factory power brakes, it likely has the small pattern.
If it's the small pattern, it's the same as Rangers, Fox Mustangs, and most Ranger based vehciles(Explorers, Aerostar, etc)
.Most five lug Ford and Mopar cars will have that pattern.
Funny you mentioned that, my buddies brother has a 69 charger with fancy american racing rims, we put them on my 82 F100 to see what it would look like. Also I'm using the rim I'm using for my spare tire came off a late 80s crown vic.
There should be plenty of different rims out there that will work.
Thanks for all your help my friend figured it out, it is a 5 x 4.5 pattern. Now that he knows for sure what it is he has found all kinds of rims that will fit it.

Just because the bolt pattern is the same it doesn't mean the wheels will fit.
The offset may be different.....the wheels have to clear the calipers.
LTD/Crown Vic, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis wheels won't work for that reason.
