Locked Out
Locked Out
Hello all,
I locked the keys in my 85 F-150 and before i call the expensive locksmith to come let me back in, I am wondering if anyone has any tricks to unlock the truck. I don't have a slim jim, but i do have access to plenty of wire coathangers...
Thanks in advance for your response!

Rear sliding window?
If you have vent windows, break one of those. Scratch that. Get a couple quotes from your local junk yards first, then see if its cheaper to break the vent or call the lock smith. MY local yard charges me $20 for the frame and glass vs $60 for the local locksmith. Your yards may be higher and/or locksmiths lower, however.
Or, what i have seen some people do is pry down there side window enough to get a coat hanger into the cab. Then reach a coat hanger down and grab the door handle. BE CAREFULL THOUGH! Too much pressure on the window WILL break it.
Goodluck

I locked myself out of my 1986 F250 once. I have locking wing windows. I took a hack saw blade and slide it in the wing window on the front side then slide another in the other side one to depress the button on lock the other to flip up the latch. Once you open the wing window you can just reach in and open the door. Hope this helps.
Trying to give him a clue that its "cheaper" than tearing it up and getting it out...kinda of thing. A locksmith (real) should be able to fit a key to it in less than 15 min, no fuss, no mess...you want service, you pay for it. If you want to tear it up...you'll pay for that too...although in the long run...time is money, you buy a service, you get it. Thats why we are around to do it for you....simple basic buisness sense. I suppose by now, its already in whatever condition others have posted anyway.

ok this sounds dumb but you already have a key right there under the hood or any hood that has the old castiron mastercylinder. take off the wire hold down, dont bend it leave it the way it is. now look at how its bent, hold it up to the wing window and see witch side you need to use ( one will do the drivers and the other will do the pass.) slide it in there till the whole bent part is between the gasket and glass at the bottom rear at the handle. place the bent hook on the leaver and the straight part on the locking button. now pull tward you to unlock the button and twist to turn the latch. open the window and pull the handle. your in this works on ford dodge and chevy truck windows for sure.
AAA. Yeah it's like $90 a year, but they tow 100 miles, unlock doors, bring gas and give free maps.
Also I have an uncle that's retired. He has copies of all my keys and as long as it's not 3am or something like that he'll come out to unlock my door.

For any of the Ford trucks with the triangular vent window, take a butter knife and slide it into the window near the rotating latch. You can then flip the latch up and open the vent window so that you can unlock the door.
I've made a loop on the end of a coat hanger and reached down to the door handle, like someone mentioned......no $locksmith$ needed. Now, go get a spare and fasten it under the front end....like to the petcock....oh oh, I gave it away!
This happened to me about 10 years ago. My 84 F150 has the rear sliding glass windows. I was able to pull the two windows together with my thumb and forefingers and, at the same time, 'pop' the latch from the backside with the knuckles on my other hand. The force was enough that the latch popped open and I was able to get into the cab. It hurt a little but saved me the hassle of a locksmith.
Cheers to 77monster for the innovative use of the master cylinder-lid retainer clip! This is truly good use of the tools at hand (of course you do have to have a screwdriver or something to pop the hood latch, but that's still very realistic)

Go to your local hardware store or local key maker. Get a spare made either of the "credit card" type {if they still have those around} or regular metal. Take the spare key and put it in your wallet. Won't work with women, they don't carry the wallet the same as we do.
