Power Brake Conversion Question

I'm going to purchase a kit to add power brakes and dual master cyl to my 54 F100. Will use stock pedal. Master Power Brakes gets $300. for a 7" dual diaphagm kit. Classic Performance gets $199 (on special now) for a 7" single diaphram kit. The dual unit is suppose to produce more pedal help. Is it needed? Is it worth the extra hundred bucks? What have you guys used? The truck will be mostly stock when I finish it a hundred years from now. Thanks
Bob

Are you putting disc brakes on in front?

The second diaphragm will give you more boost. It is like putting a 9" booster on. IMHO you don't need that much boost if you are keeping the drums, but with disc it takes more force to stop, so the dual diaphragm is beneficial. Discs are better at stopping but they require more force.

I would get the dual diaphragm MC. They are more efficient and have less chances of blowing a gasket so to speak. Since your mounting the unit in the stock location (frame), you're probably not going to be able to get bigger than a 7" booster in there anyways. The deal with CPP is a killer deal. They usually go for $300. I'd grab that one.

Beware CPP

I bought a power brake booster kit for my 1960 f100. It was around $375. I had a clearance issue with valve cover from 460 that I swapped in. I promptly returned the new untouched unit to CPP . I was charged a 20% restock fee. They would not budge on the restock fee. I lost $80. Power brakes are great on an old truck. Please buy from a professional company. Just my two cents.

Sam- The 20 percent stocking fee is normal with several companies, even professional ones. CPP has been around for a while and have a reputation of being very professional. They helped me several times with my disc conversion, gas tank under the rear frame and many other projects. Never had a problem with them yet. That's the problem with special orders of mail order, they charge the stock fee. Had you personally brought it back, I'm sure there would of been no problems.

I appreciate and thank you for the replys all.
I'm staying with the stock drum brakes all around. Two other questions. As I read catalogs, seems I will need residual valves?? Yes or no? Also, I'm staying with the stock 4 speed transmission. I don't see the clutch kit offered at MP Brakes. It is available from several other vendors. Is it generic so it will work with anyones power brake conversing kit?

Generally since the master cylinder is be low the cab you need residual valves. Depending on the master cylinder you buy, it may have them built in.

Someone else will be along to help with the clutch. You may want to post that question as a new thread so more people see the title.
