2006 E350 6.0 update

I posted a concern in may of 2006 about taking delivery of a 2006 E350 with a 5 speed and 6.0 PSD. My concern was why the E series had been de-tuned and would I be dissapointed about performance.

Here's the update:

Picked up the van 5/24/06 from a dealer that was 70 miles away. First noticed turbo lag (compared to my '97 F250 with chip, large exhaust, K&N, etc)

Acceleration not like the F250.

Van came with trailer towing package. Towing 27' travel trailer, not like the 7.3 but adequate.

Fuel milage around town is 15mpg, hiway 18mpg, towing 11mpg.

Generally please with the van. Have to have a van for business (locksmith) but would prefer a F series 7.3 with the 5 speed tranny for towing.

Detuning was done (as far as I can find) due to the cooling issues of the engine in a van application.

If I had it all to do over again, probably would do the same.

The 7.3 was also detuned in the van was it not?

Good question, I honestly do not know. My guess would be that it would also be detuned. I think that a 7.3 with the intercooler would have more torque than the 6.0 just due to the 1.3 liter increase in displacement. Just a guess. I don't know of anyone that has the 7.3 in a van.

The 7.3L in the van never had an intercooler and never had as much power or torque as the F-series.

I have 2 vans with the 7.3 PSD. They are definately detuned. Much less power and torque. You can see it if you have a boost gauge. They still work, but not like my 01 F250. A big difference.
