hey all i'm a 7.3 guy and i know on the really cold starts you and hear that turbo really wine. it's from the ebps going on and off. now does the 6.0 have one? my buddy started his truck next to mine and ie was bout 42-45 deg outside. in the shade. and boy this thing sounded odd. like just dumping air out the exhaust at a high rate of speed. not the turbo whistls but a constent wosshhhh. what is that?
your just hearing the variable vanes in these turbos cycling on and off to help prevent vane sticking..perfectly normal.
Wait, just reread your post. how long did you sit and listen to it? it should cycle between two different sounds every little bit.(sorry never timed mine to see how often it cycles) The 6.0s do have an exhaust backpressure sensor even though the 03s and I beleave the 04s are disabled and a combination of different sensors are read in its place.
