hey guys, who here installed a new intake elbow from accufab or the other makers out there? what was your overall impression of it.
-what was the quality like, good workmanship on welds/seals?
-what was mpg like (better worse) and also turbo lag reduced?
-any seat of the pants power gain?
I was thinking about getting one and if I got one do you think a ford dealership would warrenty it if I or they installed it since its not a chip or programmer?
i forgot what is the best priced one, in terms of quality on the market?
i got one from intakelbow.com my truck is a 04 i got the 05+ to get rid of the TB mess. I bought mine used (slightly) for 100 but they run 140-150 shipped...that brand is better than accufab. quality and fit was dead on. power was very noticable...less lag, smoother accel. overall alot funner to drive worth the 15 mins to install and the money.
I also installed the 05 style on my 04. Worth the money, got it from dfuser. Makes the motor breathe alot better/smoother. Its a noticable difference. Maybe gained 1mpg
akula22: I see you have a 2005. You won't see the benefits like us late 03/04 owners. For us, we get to remove an existing throttle body unit (a big clunking piece of junk), which, in my opinion, was a major choke point. The little bit of gain you'll get is probably not worth $150 bones. I'd focus on a nice set of gauges or a muffler delete package.
If you are going to step up in the future with additional power mods then get the Power Elbow from Accufab. Helps the truck breathe easier, the turbo spools a bit better and helps across the RPMs.
I installed to Accufab power elbow two Months ago in my 2006. Can't say I noticed any change in power or MPG. Still looks cool and I am sure air flow is better so I don't regret it. As far as mods go... it is cheap and really easy to install and I thought the quality and fit was good.
When I put my Banks intake elbow on I did it to whatever spec they stated and stripped two of the 4 threads. I heli-coiled them and been fine...I do it by feel...no problems.
Just got my elbow from Dfuser yesterday. Just to verify I need to torque the three bolts into the intake manifold to 23ft/lb and the intercooler pipe clamp to 9 ft/lbs correct?
WishIhada, tell me more about having an 04 (I have one) and going to the 05 to get rid of the TB mess?
+!. I need to learn about this as well. I have been considering a new elbow and if this is the max benefit route, I need to know about it. I'm lost because I thought this was just an elbow, but there is mention of removing a throttle body???
Look under your hood for the elbow. Underneath it you should see the throttle body between it and the intake manifold. On the throttle body there should be an electrical connector, pull the connector out and see if there are any pins inside the port on the throttle body. If there are no pins, then your throttle body can easily be removed without setting off a check engine light. Order the 05-07 elbow and enjoy.
If you do have pins inside the port, you can try driving with the connector unplugged. Some people have not had any issues, while others have. If you end up with a check engine light, or the truck runs poorly, you will have to get the 03-04 elbow. If the truck runs fine, you may be able to use the 05-07 elbow, but I cannot guarantee that there won't be issues down the road.
For those of you with 03-04 trucks I would definitely suggest keeping your throttle body and elbow in case you ever need to go back to stock for warranty work etc (probably not a bad idea for everybody).
