Was away for the holiday and the truck sat for a week. Went to start it last night and battery was dead (think I left the XM on....oops!)
Anyhows, jumped battery this AM and have new problem. Check engine light stayed on, truck is running like it has a potato in the tailpipe, (rough idle, vibrations, seems like it is missing on acceleration) and when I get up to 40 MPH or so check engine light starts flashing and then goes back to steady on. It rained a lot the past few nights, don't know if that is a factor. Also, truck was on empty so I dumped about 4 gallons of gas in it after I started it. Gas was a few months old at best. Just thought I'd mention it....
Truck is a 2000 3.0 / 5 spd / 4 X 4 / Super Cab with about 106,000 miles. It was fine when I parked it (of course )
When the CEL blinks it means a severe misfire is occuring, which of course is not good.
Yes, to reinforce what Rockledge said - CEL blinking means you may be dumping raw gas into the catalytic converter where it wil burn and ruin the converter. So too much driving like that and you'll be replacing the catalytic converter as well as fixing the misfire. And if it burns hot enough you might be replacing the carpet on your floor too!
Went to Autozone this afternoon, engine misfiring on # 5 cylinder. Spark plug wire was bad (boot had a rip that must have been arcing) . Will change them all since they were the originals. Running great now, thanks for the tips!
