I have a 2003 Exploder with the 4.0 and an auto tranny. Where the heck is the dipstick for the stupid tranny? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks for ANY input...
No dipstick on these... its one of those "sealed" units. There is a procedure for checking the fluid, involves getting the transmission up to temp, then removing the small level check / fill plug that's inside the drain plug on the pan, and squirting some fluid in it (via a hose and pump), then letting it drain back down. Pretty annoying, and it seems every place I've taken mine (for tranny flush, etc.) has had to make multiple attempts at getting it properly filled up.
Ford's not the only maker doing this; it seems other manufacturers are doing the same stupid thing.
Yea I agree, very stupid setup. Anything that holds fluid needs a dipstick or some kind of easy to access method to check the level with.
From what I've been reading I think I stay with the older model, had planed on buying a newer one again. The 96 we have is just new enough to use OBD2 so I think we'll just keep it. Have very little if any trouble with it, went from a 91 to it and had thought of jumping up a few more years would be a good idea again, not so much anymore!
