I have no idea, but that's a good idea. I zip tied a piece of rubber hose under there to get my brake lights to shut off. Someone has a switch in there with a few seemingly extra wires. I'm afraid to touch it.
That is an interesting way to fix a symptom. The real cause is probably due to your brake pedal not returning completely. On some trucks, there is some linkage between the firewall and the brake booster and that linkage gets rusty. If you take it all apart, clean it up and oil it, the brake light problem will go away.
The truck has the linkage setup for the booster, and the correct booster. If you've been following my other thread, I added an F350 booster/master combo.
As for the pedal height, I never really noticed it too high or low, but, I'd like to fix it if it's an easy fix.
I noticed on my Post DJ0001 pedal assembly that there are two holes for brake pedal mounting.
Does that pedal hangar assembly have another hole in it as well ?
That switch has threaded sleeve so it is adjustable.
have you tried sliding it further through the hole ?
Dennis, The pre DJ-0001 hanger doesn't have an extra hole like that, I just checked.
I also removed that bolt/nut assembly, pulled the switch as far as I could through the hole. At the very end of the travel, it just barely makes it. See pic.
I can't take credit for this issue. The truck was like this when my father bought it back in 1999. I figure since I'm doing all this work, I may as well fix any other negative issues.
Makes sense, my old '79 F100 came with manual brakes, and I remember that with the stock setup the brake pedal sat ~ 2-3 inches closer to the driver than the gas pedal did. After converting everything to power brakes (including matching pedal), the brake and gas were at same level. I wonder if non-power brakes were standard on the 2wd F100's? Mine was a Ranger also. Dennis, maybe you know?
