Switch to front wheel drive?

The truck is a '53 but is basically the same as the F-1
I agree the 4.1 caddy is not the best.......4.5 or even a 4.9 basically same motor but problems noted for the 4.1 were fixed. Very light engines due mainly to the aluminum block.
Northstar is even a better choice, 32 valve, aluminum block, close to 270 stock HP.
Have experience playing with these Caddy engines and installation in Fieros ...torque is "gut wrenching" in that little 2000 lb car :-)
Then another time at a cruise in, came in a $50 dollar truck about a mid 80's Ranger with an olds tornado front drive setup in the bed with engine in the front. When the guy hammered it it would rare up! It was COOL!!
I always wanted to make one out of an old 30's truck and do like the first guy I said did but have a hamster in a wheel up front, and say "due to high gas prices" this is what hotroders had to go to!
I am with the others, the 4.1 was the worst of the Caddy engines, my mom had 2 of them and I had alot of problems with the JUNK water pumps (made of sheetmetal)
plus head gaskets and the trannys werent much better in the older ones.
