I talked with a guy at Summit Racing yesterday about revs, MSD and the inline sixes. He claims that his dad unhooked a rev limiter from their Ford truck (and threw on an MSD i think), but he was unsure of which wire(s) that entailed.
In my reading of many posts on this site and others I haven't come across a post that mentioned a limiter though.
Summary: I have no clue, but was just told yesterday that there was one.
There's a limiter in the 4.9L EFI models, but I think it's a speed limiter, not a rev limiter.
I wanted to find out what my '91 would do awhile back, and it hit about 100 mph when power dropped sickeningly, rev-limiter style.
I then ran it as high as it would go floored in First, and it ran out of cam or gas around 4,000, 4,500, and 4,400. This slowdown felt a whole lot different from the high speed slowdown.

I know that there is a vehicle speed sensor on the eddie bauer models with cruise control .. have no problems revving out though at 100mph the engine had more .. needed another gear no speed sensor prescence detected...
With my brother pacing me in a Mitsu Mirage (stock speedo goes to 125 on them) mine shut down at 110-115. The thing is it didn't just decrease power or anything, it literally felt like it shut down. Scared the crap out of me (thought I blew something and the front end just DROPPED). Thats on an 89F150 2wd.

Whittey your a crazy cat anything over 100 in one of these air- bricks feels like instant death for sure anyways..
wow i have an 88 with the 300/5 speed and it's a push to get it to 85. that takes a tail wind going downhill. it just kinda stops at 85 thats alittle over 3 grand there should be enough power there still to pull it alittle faster. either that or my speedo dont work after that and just kinda stops
85 is real easy in my truck. Has been since I bought it. When going from Maine (Eagle Lake, way the heck up there) to Connecticut (Lisbon, southeast CT) with a uhaul and a bed full of junk and the @$$ end saggin it still did 85 without too much difficulty, and that wasn't floored on the flatlands. 85MPH is 2600RPM or so iirc (I usually drive the speed limit now for economies sake) and I ended up getting 13-14mpg with it. Unloaded I get about 17 (doing the speed limit (65) and trying not to light 'em up everywhere).
On that 110 trip I was in fourth gear though, and that was screaming. I would give it a shot again in OD but it scared me enough then that I really wouldn't prefer it.
