My '65 long box style side F250 has a 2x6 bolted onto the rear frame rails. I'm planning on making something custom for a bumper, but looking for ideas. I'm just not that creative! Please post up any pictures or info about what you did.
I'm thinking I'd like to weld a couple D-rings or hooks of some kind on it and mainly use some rectangular tubing. I have a receiver that I was planning on fitting into the frame, and then building the bumper around it. Possibly also some sort of step might make sense.
ANYTHING Goes just remember the 65's Tailgate will drop all of the way down so if you build a bumper. You might want to keep that option. My son has a custom (or Had) built bumper on his 65. Check my Gallery under 65 ford for some pics. He will probally replace it with just a Rollpan off of a Bedside. Remove the Bird and you can see a little of it. Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of a roll pan; I bet that would look good. I have a really beefy receiver style hitch that I am planning on incorporating some how. Since that is made of heavy square tubing I will probably make the rest of it from square or rectangular tubing. I'd also like to have a place to step up into the bed. Thanks for the tip about leaving room for the tailgate to drop all the way down.
My buddy says I should make the word "Ford" mirrored on the bumper, so that if anyone ever hits me they will have it imprinted on their hood!
Kongslibakken, I saved the bumper pic from your son's pickup. Williston, huh? I grew up in Pingree (near Jamestown) and my parents are living in Bismarck now.
Not to change the subject too much; but we use to put 4 to 6" round tubing bumpers on our 4x4 trucks. cap the ends and fill with air; makes an excellent back woods air tank. Really was sharp on long whell base trucks. I also put 4" round tubing with curved end caps nerf bars on a toyota 4x4 I owed with 40" tall tires.
I have a roll pan on my 66 4x4, I am working on putting the hitch between the frame rails and have the lic. plate fold down to put in the reciever. With the hitch behind the roll pan I will have some protection and still have the clean look of the roll pan.
