I was looking at the new ATV line up for 2008 for each manufacturer. Arctic Cat caught my attention by releasing a 700 cc 4x4 DIESEL automatic in their lineup! I personally think that is awesome....man I want one. Maybe I might get one for Christmas...lol
Well, maybe if you close your eyes real hard and in your heart of hearts believe in Santa Claus, he might just put one under your tree. If not you can always blame that evil Tooth Fairy.
...it has a mechanical injection pump that can be turned up if you want. Then it will lay a nice cloud of soot and have even more power...
That would be just what the ATV community needs...people on ATV's blowing black smoke all over the trails and getting the tree huggers even more pissed off. They are looking for reasons to close our riding areas. Responsible riding is our only hope for keeping the trails open. Just my 2 cents.
My brother and I were checking out the Artic Cats atv's at a outdoor store a couple years ago and we were amazed as to how flimsy the front end plastic is. The first thing my brother did was push on it and thought it was very very cheaply made. Compared to the Sportsmans it's night and day difference. The plastic reminded me of a racing atv that needed the lightest posible body molding to optimize speed. What I did like was the factory 2in reciever mount and the quick release mounts.
Polaris made a diesel atv for a while and the store I buy from always uses it to tow around the jet ski's and atv's on trailers.
Had a 02 Polaris 700 twin atv for 1,200 miles until it was stolen. The atv was flipped two days after I bought it and flipped a total of five different times. One was end over end and in the all the flips nobody was hurt. The only damage done was the rear plastic rack got a crack in it. If it were one of the Artic Cats we looked at it would have been an insurance claim. That unit was worked more than most Ford Ranger pick ups. It was used in my business to tow debris around job sites. The hardest work it saw could have been either towing the 8x16ft tandem axle camper trailer, my 2K lb fish house over a hundred miles or dredging through a foot of slush on top of 2ft of ice with five adults and one child on the atv pulling two portable fish houses.
The day after it was stolen a 06 800 EFI Sportsman camo with winch and plow was purchased new. Just took it ice fishing last week and so far it's got 142 miles on it.
It is just so wide and has no ground clearance. It's like owning a Poo Poo!
That's funny, the 10-12 inches of snow pulling the utility trailer through it didn't seem to slow down the 800 EFI once. Some spots were 15 inches but only for a few feet.
A Lombardini turbo is already available. The only problem , IMO, is that it's aa Lombardini! I work for a heavy equipment dealer, and every thime we see one of those the parts are near impossible to get, and it takes FOREVER to get the thing running right. But then, we don't deal anything with a Lombardini, so it might just be the dealership we have to worrk through to get stuff for these. Some of the Deutz and Hatz engines might also be interesting for this type app, or even a Cummins 2A.
