I went to change the fuel filter on my 06 f250 CC V-10 today and was unable to get my release tool to work. I also noticed that the fuel line fittings are different than my 01 f150. These fittings appear to have a blue plastic ring inside the end where you insert the release tool.
I have changed this type of filter before, but not on my 06. Does anyone know if Fomoco has changed the type of fittings used on the fuel filters? Thanks.
Did you try pushing the fuel line towards the filter, and while holding it like that, insert the tool?
I don't know why, but this rings a bell...
GUYS?!??!?!?!?
Thats why you are the moderator. I remember it later, from the last time I changed it on my training truck ( F150 ) Pushed the line towards the filter and with a little wiggling it popped. Thanks, Krewat
PS The connectors are different from previous years, they appear much larger although they still use a 3/8 tool. There is a blue plastic ring that is partially visible from the outside but they still unlock the same way.
On my 05 you did not need the tool. That's what the blue clips are for.
Details, please - I need to change my '05 and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do it with (or without) the tool. Laying on the 35 degree concrete garage floor did not help my thinking
I only changed it a cpl times and my tool from my 99 didn't work. Somehow I used the blue clips. Don't have the truck anymore so I can't go look to refresh my memory.

I was able to get it done using a 3/8 removal tool, it just looks alot different from the older style. There is no metal flip collar around it, and the diameter of the connector piece seems to be much larger although it still uses the same size tool. I am not sure what the blue clips do, they seem to be part of the clip that holds the filter. I just made sure to push the fuel line towards the filter as far as possible, then inserted the tool and the line popped right off.
