Have a 2002 F250 7.3L that when its cold runs great. Let it warm up and drive down the road and it will run just fine for awhile but then it shuts off and drops to about 600 rpm on the tack and if you let off the accellerator it will jump right back up and take off for awhile till it does it again. I have changed the cps and the tps pedal assembly. There are no codes saved. The water in fuel light and engine light pops on when it does it but the fuel filter is new and checked for water and none present. HELP!
The pedal assy would have been my first guess too. Sence there is a light for them, I would check the output on the sensor for the water seperator and fuel filter. Perhaps some one can give you the ohms for them.
None. The truck runs great! We got a PCM from Ford this morning and installed about 10 minutes ago. Letting warm up and taking it down the road. It only does it after you have been driving for about 30 minutes or when the engine is warmed up and going down the road. I can run then Wam it just shuts off and drops off almost dying but all your values show good on the scanner. Then if you let off the pedal and repress it goes right back where it was before and continues down the road for a whlie. Then it will do it again.
The water in fuel light & SES light give me a different idea. Check for a short or chaffing in your main engine wiring harness. They're prone to rub against the valve cover or a bracket. A short here can cause the same symptoms. I've been there.
well after doing some investigating I traced my problem down to the chip not being in tight. I could tap on the side of the PCM with my finger and make it shut off, pulled PCM and chip reinstalled and I could bang on it with my hand and not get it to die. Reinstalled chip with some more 100 mph tape reak tight and it seems to have fixed my problem......for now I hope "knock on wood"
