Today i rebuilt my carb on my 1984 300 Inline 6. The person who helped me said that all of my vacuum lines for messed up and tore them out and plugged them. Now my trucks crankcase is building up alot of pressure and causing oil to blow out from the gaskets.
Sounds like he disconnected the pcv valve vaccume line this is the one that goes from the center rear of the valve cover to the intake and you do have to have this one hooked up. Also if this engine has a vaccume advance on the distributor then it also has to be connected so that the timing is right.
I did that and it is still doing the same thing. Is there anything else that he could have plugged that would be causing this. I just replaced the oil pan, pushrod, and valve cover gaskets about 5 months ago.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Jan-02 AT 02:12 PM (EST)]Is the pcv valve working Ie: can you shake it and here it rattle. Take the pvc valve completely out and see if you have a lot of blow by. The Pcv system has to be open or this can occure and it is the only thing I know that can cause this to happen unless you have burnt a piston or something and are getting more blow by then the pcv system can handle. Make sure it is getting vacume. If it is not then check the vacume tree at the manifold and make sure it is not plugged up with gunk. Had that happen once and it made a lot of wierd things happen.
The pcv valve is working. The valve is brand new, and it has suction. I notice that the person who helped me also cut off and plugged a line that is coming from the thing that the egr valve mounts to. The hose is about the size of heater hose.
That one sounds like the thermactor (air injection) tube. It sends fresh air into the exhaust manifold and/or injection ports on the head. If I'm correct on the tube - it wouldn't cause oil to leak out of the valve cover.
It sounds like checked the PCV, it hisses when you pull it out with the engine runnning - you can feel a vacuum when you put your finger over it.
Is there oil in your air cleaner assembly? Have you checked the breather element and oil filler cap? Make sure these are not plugged or restricting the flow of air.
Got the problem fixed. My truck has alot of oil blow by. So we disconnected the hose from the air cleaner, because the air cleaner was filling up with oil. We shoved a smaller hose inside of the one coming from the top of the valve cover, and ran the hose into a bottle. While it turns out that the smaller hose was too small, because it was allowing the crankcase to build up too much pressure. So I just disconnected it, and that solved all my problems. I would like to thank all of those who help me with this problem.
