I've got what I think is two problems with the stock carter YF carb on my '72 300 I6:First off I rebuilt it, and it seems to run ok, but when I shut it off & it sits a little while I can smell gas pretty strong(outside of carb is dry)and when I go to re start it it seems flooded sometimes I have to floor it to get it to start, the other simptom is that if I idle in gear for more than 2 minutes it will start to run rough, and upon accelleration it bucks some until I get up to speed.
The rebuild kit I used had a "new" type of needle & seat, which was seald, plus I didn't adjust the float level because I figured it was OK, and I really couldn't understand how they explained the adjustment. Thanks!!!!!!! Rick
You probably notices a drop in mileage too, eh? Assuming the float needle is in right, sounds like your float level could be too high - I just rebuilt a YF and adjusted the float level exactly according to the directions, noticing that I had to bend it up considerably from where it was, and I got boil over and flooding. Took care of the problem by adjusting the float down to about where it was before the rebuild.
