so ive been having this wierd vibration above 60mph for the past month or so, and i thought it was the o/d in my tranny, but when i described the problem to my teacher at tech school he said to check the u-joints first(which are almost brand new). last night i pulled the driveshaft to check the joints, and they were fine. however, the plate the driveshaft mounts to on the rear end had about 10-15 degrees of slop in it, and so did the pinion gear. bye-bye rear end and brand new 4.10's. so i'm going to swap in a 9", but i need to know where to get the VSS adapter in order to make my speedo work. also anyone done a disc conversion on a 9" in an f150? anything else i will need to change? thanks guys.
Good luck there is no such thing. As of the last post on this topic. But this is a new day . You can make a sensor to fit on driveshaft There have been posts on such . . There r a few kits mostly for street rods. But the people I know that have used then say they r problem prone and they use the car allot less (and ride better )than you truck . Keep nosing around in here . Allot of guys would like to know. Hey talk to the big rear end /gear guys , or the custom guage guys maybe there is something new out there . Later
Unless you're running an insane amount of power to your 8.8", it should hold up if it was built well.
Plenty of 11 second stangs and Gen 1 lightnings on 8.8" rearends.
Not to mention... their ABS and VSS controls remain intact.
yeah, i know they can handle the power, i just figured i'd upgrade to a stronger 9",thats also easier to work with, instead of dumping money into another 8.8. and i have a 9" sitting at my house, so i'd be saving money there.

To each their own I guess. But the 9" swap might be more of an investment in time and money in the long run. (e.g. VSS and ECU issues, brake lines and mounts, drivelines, etc. etc.) I guess it depends on how much your time is worth. An 8.8 rebuild takes a half day plus parts.
The only issue I've had in the two 8.8's I've rebuilt... is the crush sleeve. Sometimes those buggers are a pain to remove and engage.
Who rebuilt your 8.8" the first time? No reason your pinion should have that kind of slop. If you outsourced it and paid for it... I'd bring it back! I've put 20,000 miles on this one I rebuilt in february, and it's been beat hard and worked out great.
id go with a 10.25, but id have to go 8lug and i dont want to buy new rims.
my buddy and i set up the 8.8, and the patterns were perfect. he's set up at least 4 or 5 rearends and never had a problem. i dont know what went wrong. i'll probably just pick up a junkyard 8.8 for now, then build it up later. i just need something quickly so i can get to school.
