Question Dana 60, Differential ??

I have an 02 Off road package, Had my ball joints done recently, poking around up front, and for some reason i dont remember when i spin the u joint by hand the front driveshaft turning also?

Is the front drive shaft always linked to the drivers side ujoint, and in turn always spinning? How does the passenger side engage when in 4x4?

Limited Slip? Any Help

I'm pretty sure the front is an open differential, spin the driveshaft and axleshafts turn too.

Open diff...unless you are spinning both shafts, the driveshaft may not spin.

when spinning the driveshaft...only one shaft should spin

they can both spin together...but the power will likely only be sent to the one with least resistance.

Let's say that your axle ratio is 4.10:1. If you spin the driveshaft at 41 rpm, Both axle shafts will spin at 10 rpm, or one will spin at 20 rpm while the other doesn't move, or anything in between those conditions.

If you spin the driveline, the axle with the lower resistance will spin faster.

The drivers side will have the tendency to spin since it is shorter and therefore lighter.
