2000 F150 trailer wiring problem

Suggestions/help welcome.

pulling flatbed trailer and had no turn signals on trailer, but they worked fine or truck.

during drive, turn signals quit working on both the truck and trailer (dash light would not blink, but would turn on). Turned off the headlights and the truck and trailer signals worked fine.

plugged in the hoppy 4 wire tester. turn on parking lights, single LED works. turn on flashers, 2 LEDs flash. Turn on both headlights and flashers, only one LED.

Checked all fuses - all good. swapped relays, same performance.

test power at 4 pole connector and voltages appear to be OK with multimeter (meter can't seem to react to flashing fast enough).

Disconnect rear light harness from main harness (no truck tail lights or turn signals), plug LED tester in at the connection point (not the trailer plug) and all 3 LEDs work at the same time.

I'm at a loss.

Is this a Factory plug-in receptacle or aftermarket ?

Check for faulty/open ground at G104.

My diagram shows G104 at the driver's side front radiator support. It seems to be used to ground all the trailer tow relays in the box up front and the rear taillights in the truck. I see a G400 which is at the driver's side rear frame. This is the ground for the trailer lights.

Well, i ran all the tests from the Helm manual, continuity, ground, etc. and all test good.

Hooked a test light individually into each pin of the 4 pin connector with both running lights and flashers on and with just flashers on and the test light flashes with the same intensity.

Perhaps the hoppy tester doesnt indicate properly and the problem is really in the trailer?

How much trouble is it to take a taillight out of the truck? If you can do that, then get a long scrap piece of wire and hook one end to the battery negative terminal. Turn the signal on on the side you have out, and then turn the running lights on too. The signal should stop blinking correct? When it stops blinking, take your ground wire from the battery, and stuff the bare copper end down beside the bulb as it's lit, and get the wire to touch the brass part of the bulb. If it starts blinking, then you know for sure it's a grounding problem(which is what it sounds like from the way it's acting).

i had both taillights out yesterday when troubleshooting.... but the truck lights have been working, just not when hooked to the trailer with the running lights on trying to use turn signals.

i'm coming to the conclusion either something is melted that i can't find or test for OR the Hoppy LED tester indicates incorrectly.

Raining and really cold here now, so i can't work on the trailer/truck combo right now.

So, if I am understanding this correctly, everything is fine till the trailer is hooked up? Then it's obviously a trailer problem?

My daughter brought her Ranger home and i was able to hook the trailer up to her truck. Same symptoms - so at least i've isolated it to the trailer now.

Still don't understand the hoppy tester indications and i've not gotten a response from their tech support line yet.
