I have read thru some old threads and havent found a definate answer. I have a 97 f250 psd with 218k. auto. I was driving the other day and my brake pedal went hard as a rock and it was very difficult to stop the truck. My first question is is there a vacuum pump or are the brake hydraulics run off the power steering pump? I have heard both.
Thanks,
James
Yep its a definate yes on the vaccum pump mine went out the other day.
I noticed it clicking when I got out of the truck and when I pulled into our driveway and NO brakes I had to use the e brake to stop. Well I drove another truck to town and got a new pump and when I was swaping out the pully to the new one I tore up the new pump! I had to use half my old pump, the cam looking part, and the new pump part. I was wondering if anyone knows what type of oil goes in there? Right now I just filled it up with delo 400 because thats all I had.
