Okay...I figure I have to provide 'balance' in the world...since I drive the LARGEST SUV on the planet...I figured I'd balance that with one of the SMALLEST cars on the planet for my wife.
I got her an early Christmas present...here's a few photos to show size differences!...
Kinda extremes of the scale...don't ya think!...
I gotta say...that little mini is a BLAST to drive...a 5 sp manual makes for just under 7 sec 0-60 times...I couldn't justify the supercharged version...but it would have been nice!
When the Ex or the mini first came out, someone was making fun of it, the Ex or both. There was a picture of a mini sitting on the roof of an Ex and it was described as a spare car incase you ran out of gas or broke down. It was kind of funny at the time when gas was only in the low $1s.
Plus...after driving the normally aspirated version...I have to tell you...0-60 times just a hair under 7 seconds...isn't all that bad...granted the mini only weighs bout 2500#'s...but that 5 spd manual gives that little bugger some neck snapping acceleration!...the torque steer from the front wheel drive isn't all that bad either...having the wheels as far outboard as possible really makes it track like on rails...NO and I mean NO body roll or sway what-so-ever!...the SC version adds bout 50HP!...I don't think my budget could afford to keep rubber on that little bugger!

I 'think' she will fit back there!...and don't think she weighs much more than that third row seat!

I kinda remember that commercial...
Now that the mini has been added to the stable...the Ex will be relegated to TOW and SNOW duty...while it is an incredibly STRONG tow vehicle...motivating her portly 7400#'s when not towing isn't the most efficient means of transportation back and forth to work...now hitch up the 9000#'s of TT...well her V10 and 4.30's does precisely what she is designed to do...she SHINES!
I just picked up a 2008 Ford Escape XLT 4WD 3.0 V6 that I won as the Grand Prize winner at our United Way Drive at work. The owner if the company donates a new rig every year as the grand prize. This year it was a 2008 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab 4x4. When they drew my name I went into shock..... ;-) Didn't take me long to figure out that the Ranger tows less than my 02 Excursion 4x4 and gets about the same mileage. So I asked if I could switch over to an Escape of the same value to save me fuel and $$$. They agreed as the vehicle had not been purchased yet. It is a nice rig that will get me to work and back and around town leaving the X for the heavy lifting and trips to the Mtns and Desert to hunt and camp.
Enjoy.
