snow driving
My transmission (stock) gear selector goes: P R N D 2 1
I've got some pretty gnarly hills where I live and when going down them in icy conditions would it be possible to select 2 or 1 and let off the brake? Would the transmission act like a manny and keep the speed down without needing to brake (and risk skidding)? Or would the tranny automatically select a higher gear once it got up to an appropriate speed?

one thing - I would avoid 4Low altogether unless you are stuck or off road and it's not dry, etc... 4H is the best for snowy weather 9 out of 10 times - plus you can't use 4L anyways when you are moving, only from a stand still can you shift everything into 4wd lock - I'm sure you knew that already, but I think people fear the snow on regular roadways, and think you need to use 4L - that's tough on the drive train, but it does work well when you use it in the mud, or off road, etc esp if you are really stuck, etc...
unless you are towing stuff, or have a load, even a a fairly steep grade, 2nd gear is all you would need with the abs - I've never used 1st alone... these trucks in this year are just not that heavy to warrant that really - unless you are talking about an icy 40 degree slope or something... 2nd gears them down nicely for most any slippery hill...
I will tend to use the OD off switch more than anything else in snowy weather, but that is more on the 40mph roadways, and right where the shift point is for OD - (same as downshifting into 3rd...)
