[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Feb-02 AT 05:54 PM (EST)]hi there...On my carburator, there is a small electric motor (I think) mounted on the driver's side of the carb. lately, it had been running very rough when cold, and this morning, it would not idle no matter what I did. I experimented with a few things, and ended up disconnecting this electric motor...the engine smoothed out and runs great. what is the purpose for this and why would it cause this problem?
captntim, I had the same problem with my carb,I did the same thing you did and it runs great. I have no clue what the electric sylenoid-motor did all I know is it dont do anything now!!

I know your carbs are a little different than mine ('79) but, there's an "idle stop solenoid" on some of them. The idle stop energizes effectively setting the idle. When you turn off the key it allows the throttle to close completely to prevent dieseling. Not sure if this is the same on your feed back carb. Doesn't make sense...
I know what you mean..I also have an idle control solenoid and incadentally, that dosen't work either (hmmmm...). I did replace it, that was a waste of money, perhaps I have some issues with the computer? This other device I was talking about is part of the "feedback" carb set up, but I'm not sure what it does
if it works better without it keep it like that. does it deisle tho after trun off? if not, id leave it disconnected. heck i don't know what it does, but w/e it is i bet it's gonna be replaced anyways
At rear of the carb is the idle speed control motor, which is supposed to adjust your idle in different conditions. On the driver's side of the carb is the feedback soleniod. I think this is supposed to control part of the fuel mixture.
