Tire recommendations?

A friend of mine has an Escape XLS (2WD, 4cyl), and needs new tires. The size of his factory tires are 225-70-16. The Firestone Destination A/T looks, and reviews, pretty good. Can you guys tell me what has worked well for you? This vehicle will not be driven off road, but will see some occasional snow. Thanks for any help!

Uniroyals and Good Year's are great for the money, and be sure to jump up to the 235's.

Tires...they are round and black and keep your car from rubbing on the road.

Pick what you like.

I just put a set of Big O pathmax on mine, the seem fine with 10,000 miles on them. I bought them as Big O is good about standing behind their warranty and you can have them rotated and balanced every 5000 for free. Average sounding road noise from the tires but they have good traction in the rain. I have not had them in snow so we will see. They were on sale so that was another reason that I bought them. The only tire that I do not like are the factory conti-junks they were pathetic. Only lasted 30,000. My other vehicle is a '05 500 the conti's on it went bad at 27,000. Never again will own conti-junks on anything....

I have 65,000 miles on a set of Michelin CrossTerrains. No bargain, but they are quiet and wearing well so I am pleased with them.

This is what my came on my 02 and when it came time last year to replace them I researched for some time and found they rated the highest in tests and user ratings in all weather and most road conditions.

As tcesni said they are wearing great are quite and handle very well. They preformed great on wet roads, very good in show/light mud, they did good on ice on level ground and up-hill but down hill on ice was not as good.

Firestone Destination ATs

Just bought a set for my Daughters Escape 2wd. Initially I'm very happy with them, they balanced well and look good. They handle well, and are reasonably quiet. We had our first real snow and ice this weekend and they were fantastic. I would recommend them.

Firstone Destination ATs

Opps, I forgot to mention that we did go for the 235s, and I would recommend that for the looks as well as the performance.

I would stay with 235s because anything bigger will start dropping your gas mileage.

My wife's Escape has Michelin MTX M/S and they are excellent. They wear really well, look good and make hardly any noise.

Just put Uniroyal Larado Cross Terrain 235\70\16's on this weekend.
Wife loves them. 6" of snow with ice this week and she said they were great.
Much quieter than the Kelly SUV's she had on. Can hear the engine now instead of the road noise. $467 for 4 mounted & balanced.

If you're going to keep the truck for a while. Michelin. Period.

I buy them a lot, right now I have them on the 250, the Escape and the Ranger. Once the crappy lumpy Goodyears on the 04 'stang wear out a bit more it'll get Michelins too. In my experience they are as good as they claim.

I had a set of Kumho's on my last pick-up and they were great. I am going to try a set for my excape when the OEM tires are gone. I was thinking about KUMHO Road VENTURE HT's You might look into them.
