I picked up the Destination LE for my 04 4x4 V6 and am very happy with them...I've got 32,000 on them so far and believe they'll last 50,000 without a problem. I drive an hour to work every day and often see snow in my travels. All I can say is that they have performed better then my stock Continentals. As for the ATs the LEs were actually more aggressive than I needed and the ATs wouldn't make sense especially with gas over $3.00 a gallon..in my opinion. Hope it helped.
My sister has an 05 AWD that had Continentals on it and we thought the wheel bearings were going out with all the noise that they made. She got some Kumho Solus KR21 from Tire Rack($66) and they are a night and day difference. Came home from a short(360 mi.rd.trip)where cars were in the ditch and she made it OK.They have great traction in rain and snow.Read the reviews on Tire Rack for some more opinions. She loves her Escape!
I am not a salesman, but if I was I would highly recommend the Goodyear Fortera !! I bought them 26k miles ago and they are fantastic all year tires including snow. Look them up they have won awards for good design and perforamance besides they also make your car look cool and rugged. I actually enjoy driving when it rains thanks to these tires.
Just ask any tires salesman about the Goodyear Fortera and you will see.
wow - no comments since 2008? It is Nov 2011 now.
I bought Firestone Dest. A/T 235/70R16 for my '08 Escape Limited; have 7,000 miles on them now. I certainly can't complain but either there hasn't been enough snow to really test them, or else they are Really Grrreat in the snow! The original Conti-Tracs had barely 33,000 on them but were very noisy and too rough to go over 65. Didn't feel like out-of-balance, just "not round." I replaced them ASAP after buying the Escape, and I'd never buy that brand/style.
on the wifes escape yesterday. put a set of hankook dynapro atm tires on. so far very pleased with them. they are more agressive looking on the truck than i thought they would be. thats a bonus. also when standing them next to the old ones they are about an inch taller. going through a foot of snow or more you can accelerate and not have the traction control kick in, also when stopping on ice the abs doesnt cut in as much as before with the stock michelins. the balanced real nice, well on took more weight than i like but the others all balanced with between 1.5oz and .75oz of weight. all reviews i read were pretty good. and the price was decent also 166 a tire.
heres what they look like
I know this is an old thread but I thought I would add a comment. First of all when you go with a larger dia (even one inch) will throw off your speedo. I did the same on my Suburban and the speedo is off about 2-3 mph at 70 mph. Secondly, I replaced the tires on my '03 Escape LTD a couple of months ago with Cooper Discoverers. The previous tires were Continentals (junk). The ride immediately improved drastically. So far traction is great (snow and wet) and wear seems to be fine. (no cupping or feathering) The Continentals had severe cupping and feathering with what I felt was pre-mature wear. Time will tell how they perform in the long run - but so far so good. I usually go with Michelin as I have always had great luck with them but did not want to spend that much for the rubber for the Escape.
I love the traction on our coopers, amazing in snow and water and didn't have any trouble even in freezing rain. But my poor ears seriously regret driving across the country with them. Loud doesn't begin to cover it. My 7.3 diesel is quieter.
