yup, i got a call from Washington DC yesterday. i had called my congressman, hal rogers last week complaining about fuel, and how people with farm tags should be legal to run farm diesel. we ran a test tank although illegal to tes mileage. 5 MPG MORE!!!! empty, on the road runnin 70+mph. WOW what a diff, and i can buy it in bulk for a buck less per gallon than Road diesel. well the person in washington sempathized with us, and they are gonna talk to George B about decairing farm diesel legal to help farmers keep their heads above water in the wake of the hay crisis. we may get blessed. that is all it will be, a Blessing from God. amen.

What's the differance in farm diesel and road diesel other than color?
(And price, and minus mucho taxes, etc)
From what I seen at the bulk plants, they are the same fuel just with dye. It would be nice to run it,It is so much cheeper,I don,t know how it is for you guys down there but up here in Canada they have fuel cops ,these guys drive around pulling trucks over and check your fuel and if you are running colour they will fine you all the way back to your last reciept of dino, and it is a big fine as it is
Its all the same. Only difference is the dye. The day of having a higher sulfer diesel fuel is long gone.
Not true. Has to do with were it comes from.
In the north east off road/heating oil can still be 5000ppm or more.
Same goes for Kero.
Its more than just the red dye in some locations.
Note---If you run off road fuel. You have to run the correct motor oil to combat sulfuric acids. The newer CJ does not have it in the package anymore do to it causes carbon behind piston rings.
Tidbit-
Although ultra-low sulfur diesel fuels reduce the production of sulfuric acid, nitric acid production increases as nitrogen reacts with water vapor and heat. However, CJ-4s also have higher oxidative stability, meaning that nitric acid formation from the oxidation/nitration process should develop at a slower rate
it is higher sulfer, thus better lubrication because the sulfer is a carrying agent for a lubricant. thats what the local injection shop says. they say it only helps ur engine. that is, if its fresh. alot of it sets in tanks on the farm so long it gets bad. but, i know where to get it fresh. EVERYONE NEEDS TO CALL THEIR REPRESENTATIVE AND PITCH A FIT
Heck I can't remember the last time I haven't ran a tank of on road fuel. Last time I checked Ruby's sulfur sticker said "may contain sulfur amounts higher than 500ppm." But I know that a lot of suppliers have already switched to ULSD.
The problem about the dye is that it keeps dilluting. So even after 3-4 tanks of on road fuel than can still tell that you have used Ruby in the past. They always have these demonstrations at farm shows.
The day of LSD is going to be over. I know most suppliers in my area have already switched and blending with soy to combat the lubrication problems with ULSD.
Things can be different in the NE because they still use heavy quanities of heating oil to heat in the winter. The old 1000ppm known as high sulfer in the 90's has a higer btu rating which is why it can improve mpg.I know in the midwest(Ind,Il,Wis.Mo,etc) the only thing available is ulsd 15ppm,unless you go to a refinery that has a terminal(loading trucks) in it.Many pipelines won't transport LS500ppm for fear of contamination to ulsd.
