73 F-100, 360, has a canister on the frame just behind and below the radiator on the passenger side with a steel line and a flex hose running off it. Can anyone tell me what this is.
Secondly, why would it have fresh oil on the side and bottom?

Is the flex hose a flat black corrogated paper type (D4ZZ-9D667-A)? If so...it runs from the fuel vapor charcoal cannister to the nipple of the crankcase vent filter (D1ZZ-9D695-A) that mounts on the air cleaner.

It is a silver corrogated line that does run to the air filter, there was a peice broken off on the air filter canister that told me where it went.
Any idea why there would be oil all over it? Oil shouldn't run to it.

The silver type of corrogated hose is from autoparts stores. The black type is genuine Ford (D4ZZ-9D667-A).
Mounted inside the aircleaner is the vent filter (D1ZZ-9D695-A). The nipple of the vent filter pokes through the cleaner. On that nipple is a 90 degree black plastic adapter (384411-S) held on by a fork shaped metal spring clip (D1AZ-9D628-A). The corrogated hose slides over the end of the adapter, it's a press fit. Dunno why there's engine oil there, but is it engine oil? When that filter gets clogged up..common...an oily substance will be present on all the parts. You can replace just the element (D0OZ-9D697-A) of the vent filter.
All these parts are available at Ford or autoparts stores, because they were used from 1971 thru the 1990's on most Ford vehicles.
Dennis, Illustration Section 96, page 2 shows a good representation of the vent filter (9D695), clip (9E628) and adapter (384411-S) that the corrogated hose from the vapor cannister goes to. The illustration is of a 6 cylinder, but it's similar to V8 setups. There are other pics of other engine sizes within pages 2-6 that show the same thing.
The illustration you posted doesn't show the aircleaner setup.

IMO, That page shows something other than what he describes
My you're up early ?I thought I was.
No, it describes what I told him where that corrogated hose goes from/to.
Parts counter experience, Dennis...it's all about parts counter experience.
I didn't even bother looking in the catalog, till I sent you that pic ref.
All that info in that post was strictly "off the cuff" including the part numbers.
Those plastic adapters would crack and fall off due to engine heat. I sold 100's of them.
There's only one corrogated flexible hose on Ford vehicles (except E-vans) beginning in 1971.
It goes from the vapor cannister to the crankcase vent filter on the aircleaner.
You are here early today. I'm usually on from 1AM thru 10AM. FTE was down last night for several hours..I actually watched TV for the first time since last Saturday.
