I have a 73 f100 with a 360. Theres some sort of a canister on the driver side wheel well under the hood. It has 2 lines connected to it and one line goes to the manifold. The canister appears to be empty since when you turn the engine off it pops like the suction had just stopped making the canister snap or make a popping noise. Anyway, my questions are, What does it do? And should it have something in it or is the popping noise normal? And finally, is it something that I really need to have hooked up?

hey charles,the canister is your stored vacuam for your temp. controls in the cab.it opens and closes the gates in the duct work.it runs all your cimate controls on the dash.your year was the first for this.72'and under were all mechanicly operated.as for the popping it's all ok if you have no vac. leaks and your dash controls all work.oleblue=
