I have bought an Offenhauser 4bbl intake and a Holley 4160 carb(vac. secondaries) in an effort to unleash some of the power capabilities of the 300-6 in my '79 F150 4x4. What I would like to know is what others who have made the change have done with the throttle linkage to adapt to this combo. Any other tips would also be appreciated.
I went with a bracket and cable from Summit Racing. Cable was like $30, bracket $9 .Go with the extra long cable if you decide togo that route.
I hope your going to upgrade to headers and 2 1/2" exhaust. If you increase the in, you need to increase the out. I ported my head too, just for a little better flow.
Everybody's going to tell you its too much carb. That's bull, I'm very happy with my setup. You do need to spend some time tuning the carb though. I settled on #68 jets and a 50cc accel pump.
Good luck.
when me and a couple of friends did that swap to my buddies truck we just modified the original brackets. we made the old bracket bolt on to the intake bolt. i think wedid this by weldint a piece of angle iron on it and drilling a hole in it. and all the stuff about head work and 2 1/2 inch exhaust is a good idea. it all makes a world of difference
I got the Lokar cable and the Spectre bracket. If I had it to do again, I'd go with the 36" cable. But then, my truck's an '86. Give yourself some extra room. Even with new motor and tranny mounts, my 300 rocks a bit under acceleration, taking too much slack from the cable. I may end up installing a torque chain.
