Sorry to hijack here but I have a related question to the topic here, not directed at the thread starter...

I wonder how many people that do this personal net posting at their place of employment, will be the first to scream out loudly about how unjustifiably wrong they were treated, whenever their boss gives them a poor work performance evaluation ? ... Or

How many at work net forum posters/net players will scream unfair company practices, whenever their employer goes out of business from lack of profit ?

Sounds like somebody is jealous!!!!

I do my job just fine, I've got the net up on one screen and the model i'm working on up on the other.

My place of work gives me a certain amount of time per job, and my percentages are well over what they should be already, I need something to slow me down.

Jealous ? Of what ? A employee that uses their paid company time to goof off on the internet ? Ever consider utilizing that company PC time for the betterment of the company ? Get real please..

When I first got my job with the fire dept. It was a maitenance nightmare. It will be five yrs in June, that I have been with them, and It has been estimated by the commissioners, that I save them $50-$70,000 a year in excess mechanical failures.
Which means I work for free, basically. They could care less what I do with my down time. Hence 90% online at work. And not a guilty bone in my body.

To better clarify my other post, I do live at work for 14 days out of the month (7/7 schedule). While I am there, unless I am in the field working on a project, I am off and they can give a squat about what I do when I am off. They provide me most of the comforts of home, which include food, showers, bed, digital cable and everything associated with watching TV, a computer and internet complete with a wireless router. As long as I am around the living quarters, I am free to do as I please. The boss figures if we have to live there, he needs to provide us with something to keep us in the area and out of any bars.

Until I'm notified that my performance is suffering or I'm in some way affecting the rest of the "team" what's so wrong with it?

Betterment of the company? Well seeing I'm not in upper management or have no stake in ownership, why is it up to me to be doing management's job? As far as I'm concerned, I get paid to do a job and I do it very well.

"Goofing off", or not.

When I'm "at work" I'm either inspection a house, shoeing a horse, or out in the fields...So 100% of my internet time is at home...

I'm usually here for about an hour in the morning, an hour or so at lunch, and as soon as I get done with everything I'm here for the rest of the day...By here I mean the internet, not just FTE...

like i said before.... multitask... I can do more than one thing at a time.

what exactley would I be able to do to better the company from my office? type notes to everyone thats say work faster and pass them out to everyone? They bring me a weeks worth of work at a time, I'm two weeks ahead right now, I need something to occupy my time or I'll end up with absolutley nothing to do.

And what do you care about what we do on our company time, we don't work for you.

I am sorely disappointed in the replies here. Either these replies are being made by very young people that have no life experience under their belt or people that do not have a clue, why they have a job. Especially one that allows them to play on a computer on company time. gezz..

If you are two weeks ahead of your work load, your manager is doing a **** poor job of utilizing the company employees time.

You dont work for me ? Guess again... What industry do think you are employed in on American soil that, I as a fellow American, would not have a stake in ?

I had a boss like you once, AND ONLY ONCE. By the way he had a carriers permit, and he made sure everyone saw what he was carrying. What does that tell you.
