The number 2 cylinder of my 81 F150 has developed a rod knock. Can't go much over 45 mph without it sounding really loud. My mechanic said to do an oil change and use straight 30W oil as a temporary aid. I have over 206,000 miles on the engine. It has never been rebuilt. Any suggestions on what to do with my ailing engine? Fix it or sell it? Is something this old worth rebuilding?

Depends on how the rest of the truck is. If it's your primary ride pull the engine out and overhaul the WHOLE THING. If you're mechanically inclined you can probably get away with parts, machining, and your labor for about $800-1000 for a good rebuild on everything.
With that many miles I'd do a complete rebuild. Bearings, Rings, all gaskets, seals, freeze plugs, tank the block and head, bore and hone all cylinders, align bore the cam bearings, (get a new cam and lifters), grind the crank and check the crank end of the rods for true and oversize (or get new ones), do a valve job with new valve guides, new valves and seats. make sure the head is NOT warped.
Put it back together and enjoy another 208,000 miles.....
