I've had some close calls, car came into my lane when it hit black ice (last winter) and I drove up and over a snow bank barely missing a pole to avoid it. Glad you're okay but it sounds like a binding issue to me. From what you just said about the steering box I'd check into that, but since you've already figured that.. good luck.

Talking

well i replaced the pump and it works AWESOME!! here are some pics of the job, more in my gallery no more noise AND no more binding up. the pump i had in there was the original from 1989! next thing to do is replace the steering shaft from the rag joint to the column because the slip joint and the u-joint is trashed...give me about 2 weeks to save up the $130 so i can buy it from ford and ill post some pics of that proceedure.

the pics are from the middle of the installation because i forgot that i wanted to post some pics up on here.

the new pump in and all done

you need this (power steering pulley puller) to get the pulley off and back on.

The FRANKENFORD

The original Pump from 1989

How do you like that front guard? I've looked at those before and think they look mean. I don't know if it would go with my whole street truck speedy vibe, though.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I seem to have the same symptoms. Thanks for any help. Hal

It sounds like it was his Power steering pump.
