what gears should a guy run in my 93 lightning. 30" tires 600hp big block using it for street use and little racing. don't want to winding rpm down the road I was thinking 3.27s or so?
You should run 4:10's, thats a good all around gear for track and street and will give your truck some punch off the line. 4:10's aren't that radical of a gear, it's used in 4 cylinder trucks and jeeps from the factory, also 4x4 ranger's and explorer's. Thats the gear I swapped to in my 07 mustang GT, it came stock with 3:31's. It was like a night and day difference. Just the gear swap alone took acouple of tenths off amy 1/4 mile times. I can still cruise down the highway at 80 mph without taching out. Didn't notice any real mpg difference either, I'm sure there is a little difference, but just not real noticable. " DON'T FEAR THE GEAR"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With a 600 hp big block, I would still at least run 3:73's to keep the truck peaking in it's rpm range. I would still run 4:10's myself to get the most out of it and still keep the rmp's in check. Gears are just a torque multiplier. If your going to race it, for sure 4:10's, if it's just a street toy, then you could get awy with 3:73's and still be fun, I guess with 600 hp any gear would be fun.
