I've not tried a FM 'modulated' connection but I've read dozens of reviews of various ones and most, these are plug into 12v outlet type, deliver very subpar results. Everyone complains of static and the need to retune to a different radio freq. in different parts of the country.

I gotta say i got my Brandmotion Direct Connect in this week and inside of an hour had it installed and working. It is/was great. Now, I have to admit I accidentally ordered the wrong part (non satellite) for my satellite equipped truck and the end result was I had both the iPod and Sirrius playing at the same time. Ouch!

The installation was a piece of cake. The only tools I used were a 9/32 nut driver (to remove screws holding the radio in) and a pair of needle nose pliers. They were used to pull one or two of the clip fasteners holding the dash bezel in place that refused to come out. From there it was as simple as plugging in a couple of extension cords.

The kit even includes a neat little iPod holster that easily hides in your glove box, eliminating the need for a fancy 2-part mount I bought from Crutchfield for about $70! Since the iPod is controllable with radio and steering wheel buttons, there's no need to access the iPod controls so it can be hidden away - an added anti theft benefit!

I obviously had to send the wrong part back and the de-install took only about 10 minutes. Can't wait to get the right part this time, but from my brief experience, the Brandmotion part is THE answer! Their's is also the most expensive but their website has step bystep install instructions with pics and if you run into a problem you simply give em a call and they walk you thru it. As i said, for my money it's THE answer.
