The solenoid pack came in tonight, I just picked it up along with a service manual for the E40D trans.

Hope to get time to install it tomorrow its raining or I'd do it now. Looks like a easy job. I talked to ford (where I bought the truck) and from what I was told by the trans guy it should correct the problem. I'll post back once I know one way or another for those who may be interested in the outcome.

Bought a 4x4 shift lever today at the bone yard. I'll tell ya even if ya never use 4Lo for anything move the shifter its full range of travel now and then anyway so it doesn't freeze up and save yourself 100 bucks! I thought around 50 maybe yea, but 100 bucks? wow!
I did manage to free up the original one some but unfortunately cracked it in the process, was locked up solid.
Finding 2 replacement rubber boots for it may have been tough in any event. Looked like the level of corrosion inside it had bulged the bottom one to the point it ripped open.

You're a busy little bee aren't you!? I'd love to know how that solenoid pack installation goes for the tranny. Keep us posted please. Good luck!

Had a few people over, wifes family, after eating I quietly slipped away to work on the truck....

So far so good, put in a new 02 sensor and the new solenoid pack in the trans and no more CEL.

Not a bad job, had I thought about it I would have taken the heat shield off and unplugged the solenoid pack before ever dropping the pan. That little heat shield holds 2" or more of dirt up there on the ledge on and around that connector. Removing that shield and power washing that area good would really be the best way to start the job.

Drove it all over the place, so far it as taken 7 quarts of fluid to refill it, think its full now. I put 5 in before ever starting it. Dark now, I'll check it again in the daylight tomorrow.
Doesn't down shift when I let off the gas now, didn't do it every time before but I did notice it now and then.

It shifts nice, about squawks the wheels when it grabs second!
The trans temp gauge shows a drop in temperature too. Had been running at about 150 unloaded, now it runs at about 110-120deg.

Happiness is no check engine light!

I took it for a ride this morning, needed another quart of fluid.
Still no CEL! I noticed another thing. The OD on/off button on the end of the shifter lever works right again. It hadn't been working right. If I kept repeatedly pushing it it would eventuality turn off OD and to turn it back on same thing, took repeated pushing the switch. Now it turns on and off like a new truck. It lead me to believe it was just in the switch as the trans would react to the switch if and when I got it to work.

If anyone was interested in knowing cost the solenoid pack was 98 bucks and was easy to get without having to go to the dealer.

I see that model trans has a temp sending unit build in that reports the fluid temp to the computer?
I installed a trans temp gauge and installed the sending unit after the cooler as instructed but I was wondering.
Has anyone connected a trans temp gauge to that sending unit that is built right into the trans itself?
