i just purchased 2 of these fuel drains for the HFCM, now i can put an end to the 6mm hex wrench and that damn plug and drain the hfcm 2-3 times a month............i have an 2006 fx4 F250, does anyone know if i will have to pull the front drive shaft or anything else to install this fuel drain? i have read in the past on here where the shaft or something was in the way. If the shaft is in the way i was wondering if i could jack up the driverside front end or drive up on something with the front driver side tire, to possibly make this easier to install?? any info on this is appreciated.........
It's been a while, but I think on the 4WD's it's has something to do with the fuel filter and the crossmember or a guard that's right in the way. I don't think you have to do anything special to install your drain plug but screw it out and screw the new one in. I know you can check in the tech folder as the guy (Steve V.) that wrote the article had a 4WD truck.
I changed the filter (3 times) and added the plug as shown with my truck sitting as usual. It's a somewhat tight squeeze and you'll need some patience, but it's definitely 'doable'.
I think if you jacked up the front end the driveshaft would drop some and may actually make it more difficult to do the work. Just a guess though....
I don't want to hijack the thread, but, I got one of the upgrade plugs and tried to screw it in when I changed my filter last time and I couldn't get it screwed in--any tricks?
By the way, when I change the frame rail filter I don't jack up the truck and I've got a 4x4. I just wrench from behind the crossmember.
Hmmm - did you get the threads of the new plug all the way to the threads on the HFCM and it just wouldn't screw in? or were you not able to get the two sets of threads to quite meet-up? I haven't heard of this before. Where did you purchase the plug?
I drained it and changed the fuel filters a while ago, could not use the hex wrench socket due to front drive shaft interference but the regular 6mm Allen wrench worked. I used a wobble drive extension on the torque wrench to tighten the cap. I just got one of the upgrade HFCM drain plugs but need to use up some fuel before installing it as I just filled the tank. I'll have to see how it goes when I'm down to half a tank...
OK, I just went out and crawled under the truck with the new drain plug just to see how it would fit up. I held it in place and it just barely clears the driveshaft when held up against the OEM drain plug. I have a leveling kit on my truck that I put on to handle the snow plow which does raise the front end a little. If you have a problem fitting yours in you may be able to jack up the body a little to get enough clearance to install it.
They didn't meet up. I got from International when I bought my last filter set with the part number from here. I'll try it again and look forward to hearing from thedaddycat about how it goes tomorrow.

where did you find these would like to get one? thanks
southbound, you drain it 2-3 times a month? i only drain mine when i change the fuel filters, which is every other oil change. every 10k miles i change both filters, i hit 20k the other day, so i've done it twice so far. i run additives a few times a month, more in the winter. it separates the water, but i never thought you had to drain it that often? i'm going to buy one of those plugs too. after the last drain/change. i was cursing too much. jacking up the truck doesn't help. i took the allen wrench and cut it to a short piece. took a 6mm open end wrench and got the plug out that way to drain it, it's doable but the one you showed is definitely something i have to go pickup soon. just never make it a point to go to my IH parts people to get it. not on my normal route of driving.
sorry about leaving off the C91--didn't think it was needed. And, I just looked at the box and International put a sticker on the box saying the plug is a OEM Ford replacement part. Just fyi.
