I have heard some of you complaining of paint problems on
97+ ford f-series. But I work at a car wash, I never seen
paint chips, or specks of missing paint on these fords, but
I seen paint chipping, and specks of missing paints on
the Chevys/GMCs new body style in 1/2 to 1 tons.
I am not kidding, I am being totally honest with you guys,
not screwing around.
my 2001 supercab had new paint falling off 1 week after delivery. hood and roof had to be stripped and repainted. now i have buff marks or swirls on the new black .
I have an appointment on April 7th at the dealer's body shop for my '03 because the "orange peel" on it is terrible. They said they can fix it without repainting, (we'll see).
As far as I can see, my '03 has not cracked, but I am worried about what the dealer has to do to fix the "orange peel".
I understand they wet sand it, so I would think that would make the paint thin, (or at least the clear coat) wouldn't it? I'll have to ask if they apply any more coats of clear or not.
My white 02 scab FX is about 8 months old and I recently found some paint blistering on the back edge of the bed and bottom inside edge of the tailgate. The dealer fixed it with no problems under warranty. Looks perfect.
Got a '02 F-150 here....when it was 6months old...paint was peeling away on the drivers side front door underneath right where the bottom door edge meets the cab. Was kind of flaking away....dealership did an awesome job repairing it...I also had the notorious tear drops on both front doors from the clear coating....those were fixed expertly as well..but still sucks knowing that the paint has probs..specially residing in Minnesota. I mean come on.....I paid just under 30k for the damn thing.
Well, I'm on my fourth Ford truck now. I purchased them all brand new. The first was a stripped 1985 blue Ranger, the paint peeled, sold it with 146K, bought a 1990 maroon extended cab Ranger, the paint peeled. Sold that one with 126K, bought a 1996 white extended cab Ranger, the paint was begining to peel, just sold it with 69K miles. Bought a 2003 F150 King Ranch, picked it up on New Years day. Given the pattern, I'll be selling it in 2009, with peeling paint, and 40-50k miles. Funny thing, after my experience with the Rangers, I decided I didn't want another Ford, looked at the Dodge Ram (big and ugly, but a well made truck), drove the Chevy 1500 (would be my second choice, nice motor, 5.3l), and drove the Tundra (good size, probably reliable, but not comfortable), then went to the Ford store, looked inside a King Ranch, sat in those leather seats, and that was that. At least I'll be very comfortable watching the paint peel.
