I bought a well used 86 250 a couple of weeks ago.It has a problem with the blinkers. When you step on the brake pedal both front blinkers come on.The blinkers do not work otherwise. The hazards do not work either.Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like the Hazard switch to me, or possibly a bad ground to the tail/brake lights. Do the 4-way flashers work? What happens when the parking lights are on and you step on the brake? What happens when you have a turn signal on and step on the brake? Any such clues could help...
Check the harness and fuse panel under your foot. Your harness may be loose and you could be mashing it when you push on the pedal. There is alot wiring under your foot on those older trucks.
Burnt bulbs or broken wires to either the front or rear turn signal bulbs can also cause it to act like that.
I second the do you have brake lights?
Also the flasher could be bad, it is located in the fuse panel.
The other one near the fuse panel is the 4 way flasher flasher.
Yes the mess under the trailer hitch could easily be the problem.
If it is still there, there is a connector where the rear light harness plugs into the chassis harness at the back end of the frame on the drivers side.
It may be just inside the rear cross member, but the wire should be long enough to get it outside the hole.
There is also a ground wire there that may be cut.
Famous for corrosion inside the connector if you drive in much salt/snow.
Thanks for the replies.I have changed the flasher and checked all fuses. The four way flashers do not work.I do have brake lights.I'm not sure what happens when you push the brake pedal and try to operate the turn signals.
